Frostbiting at NTYC

Frostbite Sailing... just around the buoy?

There have already been some chilling questions and requests for White Horse Dinghy Frostbite information. There are some new sailors showing interest but seem to be a little intimidated by winters in Rhode Island. Actually Rhode Island is located in the tropics of Southern New England and at times quite balmy. There is always hot coffee on... and a heated Clubhouse should you decide to venture down and watch the action... or maybe jump in a White Horse for a seatrial.

Frostbite sailing historically starts with a tune-up race on the third Sunday of October. There are typically 11 weeks of racing in the "Fall Series" which runs off until after New Years Day a week or so. The "Spring Series" typically has 11 weeks of racing and begins around the middle of January and continues through March. (Note: There is no "Winter Series" in Frostbite sailing... we skip it because there is no time between seasons to squeeze it in) Each Sunday (if the winter ice packs do not prevent us from launching) the Race Committee normally provides "White Horse Fleet #1" with (5) races each Sunday. Not counting a few special regattas... It provides for 55 races in each series or 110 races over the winter months.

The White Horse Dinghy "Rules and Specifications" are quite simple were last revised in October 1998. Click here for "Rules and Specifications".

There are White Horse Dinghies available for charter for those who do not already own the famous "White Horse Dinghy". (Beware of expensive imitations) Check with the NTYC Vice Commodore for availability. The most current dinghy ownership list is here: "White Horse Dinghy Owner List" and is also posted at the NTYC Clubhouse Bulletin Board. There is separate copy inside the Clubhouse for Owner's to revise and update. Please leave it with your changes and modifications and a new revision will be posted prior to Frostbite Sailing Season.
