2005-2006 Sailing Instructions (Subject to Change)

RACES:       All races begin at 10:00 am Sharp!  One race constitutes a dayÕs race.  The goal is at least five races per day.  Overall qualification is 60% of number of races held.  Racing can be cancelled at any time at the discretion of the Race Committee.  The 20 / Somewhere Below 20¡ Rule will apply.  (No racing if the wind is 20 knots or over and when the Race Committee considers the temperature and conditions are unsafe for sailing.)

* Life jackets must be worn at all times while racing, otherwise you will be disqualified.

If a boat capsizes, the race committee may abandon the race if deemed necessary.  Notification of abandonment will be 5 short blasts with the horn.

RECALL:    Individuals:  Name and sail number will be called by the race committee from the dock/float.  It is the skipperÕs responsibility to listen for the recall or request confirmation on a close start.

GENERAL RECALL: If a majority and/or an indeterminable number of boats cross the starting line early, 5 short blasts will be sounded as a general recall.

SCORING: Low point scoring will be used with the first place finisher receiving 1 point and all others receiving the number of points for their place. US Sailing Rules will apply. The Ò2-Turn RuleÓ will be in affect when fouling a competitor and the Ò1-Turn RuleÓ when touching a mark.

STARTING SEQUENCE:  Races will be started by horn signal by the race committee from the dock/float.  The following sequence will start each race after warnings described above.

2 minutes          -           2 long blasts

1 ½ minutes      -           1 long blast and 1 short blast

1 minute            -           1 long blast

30 seconds        -           3 short blasts

20 seconds        -           2 short blasts

10 seconds        -           1 short blast

5 seconds          -           1 short blast

4 seconds          -           1 short blast

3 seconds          -           1 short blast

2 seconds          -           1 short blast

1 second           -            1 short blast

START             -           1 long blast

*Note:  Liability waivers will be made available and must be filled out completely by all sailors prior to participation. Those participants who have not read, understood and signed waivers prior to walking down the ramp or climbing into a boat will be not be counted or acknowledged as a participant in this event.
